Economic benefits of continuous-cover forestry
Done right, continuous-cover forestry (hyggesfritt skogsbruk) can offer major economic advantages compared to traditional clearcut forestry (trakthyggesbruk). With Hyggligt, it’s also easy.

Research has shown that continuous-cover forestry can be just as profitable—or more profitable—for forest owners than traditional clearcut forestry (trakthyggesbruk), when done correctly. In addition to higher long-term harvesting income, it can also mean lower logging operations and silviculture costs, steadier cash flow, preserved property value, and better use of the forest’s ecosystem services (ekosystemtjänster).
The harvested volume and revenue from a single operation is of course higher in a final felling (slutavverkning) under clearcut forestry, since all trees in the stand are harvested—unlike continuous-cover forestry, where only the largest trees are taken. But that comparison is only interesting in the very short term. Over a 70-year period (an optimistic rotation period (omloppstid) for clearcut forestry), continuous-cover forestry can allow 4–7 harvests and surpass the profitability of clearcut systems.
Below you’ll find more reasons—and further reading—on why continuous-cover forestry with Hyggligt can be more profitable than traditional clearcut forestry.
