Clearcut forestry (kalhyggesbruk) is the traditional harvesting method in Sweden. It means establishing a new generation of trees at the same time within a stand. When the trees are old enough, the entire stand is harvested and a new stand is established. The cycle then repeats.
A stand managed with clearcut forestry is usually single-layered or two-layered, meaning that the trees in the stand are roughly the same age and height.
