Fully stratified forest (Fullskiktad skog)

Fully stratified forest (fullskiktad skog) is a term describing the height distribution of trees in a forest stand. In a fully stratified stand, there are trees in all size classes and always more small trees than large ones. This is the natural structure of a forest where no forestry has been carried out.

In traditional clearcut forestry, stands are most often single-layered. In continuous cover stands, it’s much more common for the stand to be fully stratified.
