High stump (Högstubbe)

A high stump (högstubbe) is a tree trunk intentionally left standing after a tree has been felled or broken. In forestry, high stumps are used to support biodiversity, since they serve as important habitats for many insects, fungi, birds, and other species that depend on dead wood.

During harvesting, natural high stumps are often left in place, and new high stumps can also be created intentionally by cutting a tree 3–4 meters above ground level.
